Top 5 Newbie Questions Greeley Gallery’s Staff Hear

One of the greatest things about North Portland is its diversity. We celebrate our differences and want everyone to be comfortable visiting Greeley Gallery regardless if it’s your first time or fiftieth.

It’s common for first time visitors to feel overwhelmed by all the options and have questions about things they’ve heard. So, we thought we’d put together the answers to the top 5 questions we’ve been hearing recently from some of our newer customers.

1. Does CBD get you high?

The short answer is no. Which is why CBD is the medicinal alternative to THC. There are over a hundred kinds of cannabinoids within a cannabis plant, CBD is just one of them. Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t offer any psychoactive effect which means it can’t get you high.

However, too much CBD is known to result in dry mouth and feeling lethargic.

2.Will Smoking Weed Damage My Lungs?

Given the state of COVID-19 and our desire to be cautious with our lung health, smoking weed is a valid concern.

The answer is both yes, and probably not. The act of smoking weed can irritate your lungs which makes you cough. The resin from the smoke can also make you cough up mucous or experience bronchitis type symptoms.

However, these issues don’t usually last long and tend to go away completely when you quit smoking. Lastly, there’s no proven link between marijuana consumption and any increased risk of lung cancer.

3.What’s the difference between smoking weed and edibles?

When you smoke weed the cannabis gets absorbed into your bloodstream. You’ll usually feel the effects within minutes, and it tends to peak around 10-15 minutes in. Although it’s not unusual for highs to last between 1- 8 hours.

You consume edibles, which means when your body digests it, your liver processes it. When this happens, it results in a more potent THC substance and a stronger high.

Since your digestive system metabolizes your edibles it takes longer before the effects kick in. Typically, it begins within an hour of consumption, but sometimes takes up to 2 hours and can last for up to 24 hours.

4.What should I do if I get too high?

Too much cannabis can bring on paranoid thoughts, anxiety, and general discomfort. We always recommend learning your tolerance by gradually working your way up. It can be tricky to know how much is too much when you’re just starting out. Sometimes it happens regardless.

There are a few tricks to combat the effects while you ride it out. Drinking water is always a good idea, and some swear by chewing on a black peppercorn.

One of the best things to do is to distract yourself. Go for a walk, take a bath, turn on Netflix. Do anything that takes your mind off it. Before you know it, you made it through your peak and are on your way back down.

5.Why does weed give me the munchies?

Getting the munchies is one of the best parts of being high. Food just tastes better and we have THC to thank for it.

In addition to THC effecting our mood and emotions and taste, it also assists the release of ghrelin, the hormone that stimulates hunger. Thus creating the munchies!

So not only does THC make us hungry, it makes our food taste better. Sounds like a win-win to us.
