Things escalated by the 1980s, when Oregon became a hotbed for illegal marijuana farming, yet try as officials might, they couldn’t squash the industry. And by the 1990s, people began reacquainting themselves with the plant’s healing potential. This wave continued until 2015 when cannabis was re-legalized in Oregon. And now, a decade later, Oregon’s cannabis culture is thriving just as it was always meant to.
Though, of course, there’s one very significant reason Oregon and cannabis have such an enduring relationship: Oregon is one of the best places in the United States to grow cannabis.
